Social Bookmarking is a way to save your bookmarks online, which provides many advantages. First, you can acess them from any computer with internet access. Second, you can share your links with other people. Finally, you can benefit from seeing other people's links. The most popular social bookmarking site is called del.icio.us (
http://del.icio.us) . Many teachers have been asking me about how to use this site, so it is the topic of my next video blog tutorial for you. You should be aware that there are other social bookmarking sites out there. Another popular one that you may want to check out is
www.ikeepbookmarks.com.
The video tutorial in the following post will show you how to setup and start using yout delicious account. Before doing this I could suggest that you watch the video below "Social Bookmarking in Plain English". I did not create this video, it is available on youtube here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x66lV7GOcNU . Please let me know if you have any questions and if you create a del.icio.us account email me your username so I can add you to my network.
Social Bookmarking in Plain English (by Lee Lefever):

Note: del.icio.us is blocked by our web server if you don't have limited restrictions on your laptop. After you create your account, send your url (del.icio.us/ your user name) to Joe and he can unblock your site.

The following vidoes show you how to create a del.icio.us account and start using it to store and organize your bookmarks.
Part 1 of the video: How to create your account, save bookmarks and use tags

Part 2 of the video: How to bundle tags and use the social aspects of del.icio.us

This blog is an example of the new blogs that are now available to all P.K. Yonge faculty. These blogs have many new features that make them more powerful than our previous blogs. You can now easily add pictures, file attachments, and videos to your posts. You also have more control over the appearance of your blog, with more themes to choose from and more text formatting options. To get started using your new blog I have added several resources below. A video tutorial is provided in the following posts that will show you how to setup and start using your blog. Additionally, you can download and read the instructions that are attached to this post as a Word document (see link at bottom of this post. For those of you just itching to get started without instruction simply go to
http://pky.ufl.edu/users and click on "Create Your Weblog" as seen in the picture below.

If you're wondering how you might use your blog here are some ideas:
- Post a summary of what you do in class everyday and include attachments with worksheets, notes, and other classroom documents.
- Use the blog to make important class announcements and information available to parents.
- Post links to extra resources for your students to explore outside of class.
- Post pictures of what your students are doing in class, or what your club is doing after school.
- Post your own thoughts, ideas, and reflections for the benefit of yourself or other teachers.
