New Announcements, Tuesday, 11/24

Congratulations to the Cast and Crew of "The Importance of Being Earnest." It was an amazing production. They performed 3 shows last week-end to enthusiastic crowds. The shows were well-supported and all those in attendance were able to enjoy one of the classic comedies of all time! Special thanks goes to Ms. Byrne for her direction in the play. We look forward to seeing many more great productions in the future!

It’s time for our annual TOYS FOR TOTS drive.
Please bring in NEW, UNOPENED, AND UNWRAPPED toys by Friday, December 11th.
The homeroom class that brings in the most toys (one for high school, one for middle school) and the elementary classroom that brings in the most toys will receive an ice cream party, provided by BBVA Compass Bank.

Junior Varsity Lady Wave basketball team plays away tonight (Tuesday, 11/24) at GHS. Game time is at 6:00.

There will be a Key Club meeting today (Tuesday, 11/24) in Ms. Andrews’ room during high school lunch. We will be planning the student-faculty basketball game. All members please plan to attend!!!

Morning Announcements

FAMILY LUNCH: The cafeteria invites P.K. Yonge families to join their students, Thurs. (11/19) for a Thanksgiving lunch during the students lunch time. Turkey, dressing and all the trimmings. Adult lunches are $3.00.

GIRLS SOCCER: Congratulations, Girls soccer beat Newbery 5-2 last night (11/17). Alex Avera led the team with 2 goals and one assist. Nicki Llinas, Elishah Santiago and Allison Mervau also led in scoring. Their record improved to 5-1-1. Girls play tomorrow (11/19) at 5pm against Gainesville High. Please come and support the girls and enjoy a hot cup of chili.

BOYS SOCCER: Congratulations on their 9-1 win last night (11/17) against Peniel Baptist. This brings their season record to 3-0. Hat tricks were scored by Jake Murphy & Nick Cattafesta, and Hank Tobener & Sergio Galindo each added one goal a piece. Come support them at home on Thursday night (11/19) when they take on Newberry at 7:00pm.

LACROSSE: We will have our first Lacrosse meeting for the 2010 season on today, November 18th at 5:30pm in the PK cafeteria. All prior team members, their parents plus any interested students and their parents should attend this very important meeting. And because this meeting is scheduled for the dinner hour…Pizza will be served!

DEBATE CLUB: Debate Club will resume this week at the following time: 8th grade- lunch on Thursday (11/19), High School- lunch on Wednesday (11/18). Bring your lunch and try to be there at the beginning of lunch. See you there!

Come support Art Club members Friday, Nov. 20th, 5:30 pm for the reception at the Florida Museum of Natural History’s Trashformations Recycled Art Contest. Students have entered 4 sculptures this year.

A/B HOROR ROLL: Monday, (11/23), all middle and high school students on the A/B Honor Roll for the first nine weeks will be treated with ice cream during lunch. Look for the tables on the street side of the cafeteria.

FALL DRAMA PRODUCTION: The High School Drama Department is presenting Oscar Wilde’s classic Play, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST
“Bernard Shaw, a drama critic in Oscar Wilde’s day, summed up Wilde’s gifts by writing, “In a certain sense Mr. Wilde is to me our only thorough playwright. He plays with everything: with wit, with philosophy, with drama, with actors, and audience, with the whole theatre.”
Performances are Friday 11/20 at 7pm and Sat 11/21 at 2 and 7pm. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for students. They will be sold through ticketmaster, and The Box Office will be open every day starting 11/16 from 2:30-6. On 11/20 it will be open from 2:30-7:30 and then on 11/21 from 1-2:30 and 6-7:30.

COLLEGE VISITS: The list below is the presentation for the remainder of 2009. You must sign up in the school counseling office (guidance) to attend these presentations. There is a cap on the number of students who may attend each presentation, so don’t wait to sign up.

STUDENT ATHLETES: We have two student athletes signing scholarships today (11/13), , Lindsay Cable, Stetson, Tennis, at 3:00, at the gym, Ryan Tombs Lake Erie College, Baseball, 3:30 at the Gym. Yesterday (11/12) Jaterra Bonds, University of Florida, Basketball, Brittany Hendrix, University of North Florida, Softball.

STUDENT REMINDER: ALL students must be off campus by 3:10. Students on campus after that time will be assigned lunch detention the following day.

FOOTBALL: Senior night, last home game of the season. tonight (11/13) 7:30pm.

COME SUPPORT: Please come out to support the boy’s and girl’s cross country teams as they run their regional meet at Santa Fe College in town this weekend (11/14). This is the first time in school history that the regional meet is local and both squads would love some PKY fans to show up to support them. The races are this Saturday and start at 10:00 and 10:30am and the cost is $6. The course is located across from the teaching zoo and the gym on SFCC campus. Go Blue Wave Cross Country!

CLEAN THE CREEK: Key Club will be holding a “Clean-the-Creek” day at Tumblin’ Creek on PKY campus this Saturday (11/14) from 9—12 a.m. We will be removing trash and invasive exotic plants. Community service hours are available. Come, bring a friend… help us keep our campus beautiful!

RED WHEEL FRUNDRAISER: Pick up orders is TODAY. (11/10) from 2:30-6pm from the Cafeteria.

VOLLEYBALL: Come cheer your volleyball team on to victory as they battle Providence in the Regional Semi Final game home, Tonight (11/10) night at 7:00pm. STUDENTS GET IN FREE (By special arrangements the student tickets will be paid for you, but you have to come to the ticket booth and sign in to get your free ticket. You must have a ticket to be at the game) We need your cheering and your great blue wave spirit. This is another big game on the way to the regional battle on Saturday (11/14)

CURTAINS: There will be Call-backs for the musical, Curtains, Tuesday, (11/10) from 3-5pm in the PAC. These call-backs are only for certain characters. There is a list posted on the Chorus Room door of the people who need to attend.

CONGRATULATIONS: to all the swimmers who participated in the Region 1 Swimming and Diving Meet in Tallahassee on Friday. Cullen Fitzgerald took third place in the diving championship with a score of 368.55. Cullen now will represent PK Yonge at the State Championship meet Saturday in Orlando. Go Blue Wave!'

CONGRATULATIONS to the following P.K. Yonge Vocal Music students. These students competed in all 3 levels of the Florida Vocal Association All-State competitions and were chosen to represent P.K. Yonge in Tampa in January 2010. They will be part of the Florida Music Educator's Conference and will be performing with the All-State Orchestra and All-State Bands at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. Way to go Blue Wave! FALL DRAMA PRODUCTION: The High School Drama Department is presenting Oscar Wilde’s classic Play, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST
“Bernard Shaw, a drama critic in Oscar Wilde’s day, summed up Wilde’s gifts by writing, “In a certain sense Mr. Wilde is to me our only thorough playwright. He plays with everything: with wit, with philosophy, with drama, with actors, and audience, with the whole theatre.”
Performances are Friday 11/20 at 7pm and Sat 11/21 at 2 and 7pm. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for students. They will be sold through ticketmaster, and The Box Office will be open every day starting 11/16 from 2:30-6. On 11/20 it will be open from 2:30-7:30 and then on 11/21 from 1-2:30 and 6-7:30.

CONGRATULATONS: To the Girls Volleyball team they won the Regional quarterfinal match last night (11/4) vs St. Johns Country Day School. We host the regional final Tues. (11/10) at 7pm. Vs Jacksonville Providence HS.

CONGRATULATONS: to Girls Soccer as they defeated Santa Fe 2-1 last night (11/3) Alex Avera scored the first goal and Allison Mervau scored the second goal which was assisted by Alex Avera. The girls are undefeated with a record of 3-0-1. Come support them next Tuesday (11/10) against their first district game against Bronson HS at 5pm at PKY. Go Lady Blue Wave!!

VOLLEYBALL: PKY Varsity will get to host the Regional quarterfinal match tonight at 7 pm. We need all our fans to be there. This match against St. John’s Country day will set us up for the next big game. BOYS SOCCER: Parent meeting tonight (11/3) 5pm in the community classroom.

FALL DRAMA PRODUCTION: The High School Drama Department is presenting Oscar Wilde’s classic Play, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST
“Bernard Shaw, a drama critic in Oscar Wilde’s day, summed up Wilde’s gifts by writing, “In a certain sense Mr. Wilde is to me our only thorough playwright. He plays with everything: with wit, with philosophy, with drama, with actors, and audience, with the whole theatre.”
Performances are Friday 11/20 at 7pm and Sat 11/21 at 2 and 7pm. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for students. They will be sold through ticketmaster, and The Box Office will be open every day starting 11/16 from 2:30-6. On 11/20 it will be open from 2:30-7:30 and then on 11/21 from 1-2:30 and 6-7:30.

CONGRATULATIONS: to the Marching Band for qualifying for the State Championships this past weekend at their competition at Santa Fe High School. They have been working so incredibly hard to get there and their hard work has paid off.

PKY HOMECOMING: this week (11/2-6) is P.K.’s homecoming week. Dress up days-Monday Psychedelic Day, Tues. Character Day, Wed. Clash Day, Thurs. Sports Day, Fri. Spirit Day. (remember to dress within the Dress code and the theme of the day). High Tide is Thurs. (11/5) 7:00 in the Gym, cost is $5.00, Parade is Fri. 9am starting at the north field proceeding thru the front circle then down to the Gym. PKYPTO Fall carnival is Friday 4-7pm, Art Gallery will be open Friday 4-7pm. Football game Friday at 7:30.

LACROSSE: We will have our first Lacrosse meeting for the 2010 season on Wednesday, November 18th at 5:30pm in the PK cafeteria. All prior team members, their parents plus any interested students and their parents should attend this very important meeting. And because this meeting is scheduled for the dinner hour…Pizza will be served!

The following swimmers and divers qualified for next week’s regional meet in Tallahassee: Cullen Fitzgerald, Ailin McCullough, Hank Tobener, Hailey Goetz, Ivi Crawford, Lizzy Tobener, Lauren Thompson, Tirzah Etherton, Morgan Pinks, Laura Bennett, Shannon Specie. And although not traveling to the Regional meet, Ellis Cunningham placed 2nd in Boy’s District Diving!

High School and 8th grade only)- DEBATE CLUB: Do you like to talk? Do you like to argue? Do you like to debate with your friends or family? If so, please come to the all new Debate Club interest meeting on TODAY, October 28th during HS and MS lunch in Ms. Hamlett’s room, K-326. This club is open to high school and 8th grade middle school students. The long-term goal of the club is to create a competitive debate team from interested students in the Debate Club. The club will meet biweekly at lunch with after school meetings beginning later in the semester. All interested are encouraged to attend!

CONGRATULATIONS: to the P.K.Y. Football team for their 30/22 victory over Bishop Snyder last night (10/22).

RED WHEEL FRUNDRAISER: Dead line to turn in orders is TODAY Friday Oct. 23. The PKYPTO is sponsoring a fund raiser with the proceeds to go to Elem, Middle and High School improvements. Order forms in the front office. The top seller will receive a $100.00 gift certificate, 2nd place a $75.00 certificate and 3rd place a $50.00 certificate. Pick up orders is Tues. Nov. 10 from 2:30-6pm from the Cafeteria.

MUSICAL PERFORMANCE: The Award-winning P.K. Yonge Vocal Ensemble and Women's Ensemble present a Blockbuster Showcase, "From P.K. To Broadway" on tonight, October 23 at 7 pm. It will feature music from their sold-out performances of Ragtime, 42nd Street and Les Misérables as well as some of their new material. The groups will be joined by some of our talented Alumni for this special “one night only” fundraiser! Reserved seats are $10 and $20 and tickets will be on sale next week in the PAC foyer from 3-6pm. All proceeds go to help fund the groups’ competitions at Disney World this year. Don’t miss this rare opportunity!
